Last but not least

As things keep moving, it's farewell to Zoilo who is soon heading back to UK. Nabil will remain in Kurdistan to finish filming and later, the KMPE team will reunite in England to gather thoughts and forces again.
Until then.

Happy and sad

Yesterday we met with Siya -film maker and KMPE collaborator- and the people of SulyOn and IFA with the purpose of creating a film which will feature both masks and puppets. We are really looking forward as it will be a great opportunity to work again with a great community of artists.

Unfortunately, the project at the youth detention centre is now on stand-by due to reasons beyond our control.

Thank you Omar

As we were watching the bees at work, a kid politely approached us. He knew us from when we were facilitating at his school. He proudly announced he was about to finish his puppet (by himself) and he wanted us to see it once it was finished. He also wanted to know how the puppet should be named, and we all agreed to find a name together once it was finished.

5th November U.K.

Now that we have successfully completed Phase One of the K.M.P.E.  we now enter
Phase Two of this project.
Nabil and Zoilo remain in Kurdistan to continue the work there while Stephen Jon has returned to the U.K. to start the process of sharing the experience with various communities in the East Midlands. Therefore you will now see the blog reflecting two parallel journeys and showing more than one point of view with this bifurcated authorship.
Stephen Jon is in consultation with City Arts and Long Journey in preparation for an event in Nottingham on 9th December using the K.M.P.E. as a case study for "Cultural Cohesion Conference".Also he will be contributing to an event hosted by 'Artists Voice' dealing with Artists working Internationally.
Stephen is to begin the process of devising a performance piece based upon the experience of the K.M.P.E. and is in consultation with members of the Kurdish Community in Nottingham in order to clarify some of the stories he may use. The current themes include the Kurdish New Year story, 'Zuhac' and the Cycle of the seasons.

Forum theatre and puppetry to follow

On Sunday we will be starting a new applied drama project at a youth detention centre. We payed them a visit yesterday and we left feeling we have been given a great opportunity to work with a hard to reach group of teenagers and a seemingly interesting institution.

After an intense debate amongst ourselves, we opted to facilitate puppetry and forum theatre hoping to connect and engage through the liberating nature of puppetry and forum theatre.

Until then.
